Case observation on the common peroneal nerve injury.

چکیده
Peculiar anatomical features render the common peroneal nerve and its nutrient vessels particularly susceptible to damage in injuries about the knee. Sunderland (1968) observed that, at the knee, this nerve is apposed to the neck of the fibula by the attachments of the deep fascia. In this way not only is the nerve securely fixed at this site, but it is also angulated where it turns abruptly laterally from the gastrocnemius to pass between the two heads of the peroneus longus. Here it is flattened and its constituent bundles are seperated, so that the nutrient vessels are exposed and left unprotected between them. Although Lyle (1925), Perrin and Labry (1926), Woltman (1930), Selig (1938), Lewin (1943), Weddell et al. (1943), Parkes (1960), Barrett and Cramer Fritz (1963), Marwah (1964), Burkhart and Daly (1966), Crothers and Johnson (1973), Gloobe and Chain (1973), Mangieri (1973) and Ogden (1974) have reported the various causes of injury to the common peroneal nerve, none of them have compared the incidence and the severity between the superficial and deep divisions of this nerve.

11 Cases of Sciatic Nerve Injury Following Intragluteal Injection of Diclofenac
Abstract Sciatic nerve which is responsible for innervation of major part of the lower limb, can be injured with various causes. One of the common sites of this nerve injury is gluteal region. This injury occurs following hip arthroplasty and other surgeries of the hip region, Fx - dislocation of the pelvis and femur, acute external compression of the nerve, intragluteal injections, and some o...
متن کاملReport of a Novel Bilateral Variation of Sciatic and Inferior Gluteal Nerve
Sciatic nerve is the thickest nerve of the sacral plexus, which innervates many muscles and vast areas of the skin of the lower limb. It leaves the pelvis via the greater sciatic foramen, emerges into the gluteal region by passing under the piriformis muscle, and descends beneath the gluteus maximus to divide into its terminal branches: tibial and common peroneal nerve at the superior angle of ...
متن کاملAnomalous superficial peroneal nerve and variant cutaneous innervation of the sural nerve on the dorsum of the foot: a case report
BACKGROUND The superficial peroneal nerve is a branch of common peroneal nerve. There are reports about the variant course and distribution of this nerve. The sural nerve arises from the tibial nerve in the popliteal fossa. The variations of the above nerves described here are unique and provide significant information to surgeons dissecting lower limb. CASE PRESENTATION The present case is a...
متن کاملTourniquet‐induced common peroneal nerve injury in a pediatric patient after knee arthroscopy – raising the red flag
Peripheral nerve injury following the use of arterial tourniquets is a rare but potentially debilitating complication. Further education on the safe and appropriate practice of tourniquets is imperative to reduce the incidence of tourniquet-related complications.
